We very frequently use Indian currency . In fact, No body of us can imagine life without it. But how many of us know about our Indian rupee. Lets find:
- The word rupee comes from Sanskrit word ‘Raupya’ which means Silver.
- Sheh Shah Suri introduced the first rupee.
- The picture of Mahatma Gandhi on banknotes was taken from a picture taken during meeting of him and Lord Pethick Lawrence in 1940’s.
- ₹20 carries the imprint of Andaman & Nicobar Islands at back side of note, ₹50 carries imprint of Parliament of India, ₹100 Himalaya Mountains, ₹500 Dandi March and ₹1000 carries imprint of Economy of India.
- Each banknote has its amount written in 17 languages. They are English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
- To type the symbol of rupee, you need to press ‘ctrl+shift+$’.
- In 2010 Indian rupee symbol ‘₹’ was adopted which is created by D. Uday Kumar.
- The current series of notes is called ‘Mahatma Gandhi Series’. The mahatma Gandhi Series was introduced in 1996.
- ₹500 and ₹1000 was introduced in 198s7 and 2000 resp.
- Indian currency notes are printed at Currency Note Press in Nashik, The Bharatiya Note Mudra Nigam (P) presses at Salboni and Mysore, Watermark Paper Manufacturing Mill in Hoshanabad.
