Facts about Indian currency

We very frequently use Indian currency . In fact, No body of us can imagine life without it. But how many of us know about our Indian rupee. Lets find:

  1. The word rupee comes from Sanskrit word ‘Raupya’ which means Silver.
  2. Sheh Shah Suri introduced the first rupee.

  5. Each banknote has its amount written in 17 languages. They are English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, odia, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
  6. To type the symbol of rupee, you need to press ‘ctrl+shift+$’.
  7. In 2010 Indian rupee symbol ‘₹’ was adopted which is created by D. Uday Kumar.
  8. The current series of notes is called ‘Mahatma Gandhi Series’. The mahatma Gandhi Series was introduced in 1996.
  9. ₹500 and ₹1000 was introduced in 198s7 and 2000 resp.
  10. Indian currency notes are printed at Currency Note Press in Nashik, The Bharatiya Note Mudra Nigam (P) presses at Salboni and Mysore, Watermark Paper Manufacturing Mill in Hoshanabad.
